The doors to Miss South Africa 2026 open on 28 April, marking the first round of the competition under the ownership of the Motsepe Group.
The Miss South Africa Association has announced that entries for the 2026 pageant will open on 28 April and close on 17 May 2026.
This will be the first full season to showcase the organization’s dramatic improvement under new ownership and an exciting repositioning that means crowning.
This announcement comes after one of the most difficult periods in the competition’s decades-long history.
The end of the gaming era
The Motsepe Group of Companies made headlines in 2024 when it acquired the owner of the Miss South Africa organization and pageant, ending the era of Weil Entertainment, which succeeded Sun International’s control over the organization.
The change caused a series of administrative and structural changes, leaving the page’s future uncertain for most of 2025.
Longtime CEO Stephanie Weil officially stepped down after a few years at the helm, and creative director Werner Wessels also announced his resignation — two high-profile announcements that signal the clear end of an era.
Africa Fashion International (AFI), founded by Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, wife of billionaire entrepreneur Patrice Motsepe, operates as another company within the group, bringing fashion and luxury trends that are shaping the competitive landscape.
From international to Pan-African
Organizational changes have also prompted a dramatic rethinking of Miss South Africa’s international status.
In 2025, Miss South Africa renounced all international pageant licenses. This was a first for the organization, as part of the modern policy of Miss South Africa serving the country instead of acting as an international representative. The change drew a lot of criticism from die-hard sports fans.
Qhawekazi Mazaleni, the owner of the 2025 titles, did not compete internationally due to time constraints and ongoing organization, where the organization issued a public statement announcing its decision to refocus and adjust its performance instead of chasing the international stage.
In a statement published on the competition’s website, promoter Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe described the platform as “designed to work with each winner and challenger, equipping them to contribute meaningfully to the local and global sectors.”
Responsibility and influence on aesthetics
There is now a strong emphasis on accountability and the impact of excellence as Miss South Africa 2026 is positioned as a year-long leadership development journey rather than a single pageant event. As a result, it is expected that the finalists and finalists will drive public engagement through the official Empower Youth Africa (EYA) program.
EYA will be the symbol of the new era of Miss South Africa, which focuses on youth unemployment, entrepreneurship, health and wellness, access to education, civic engagement, and Pan-African development. The program represents a measured effort to ensure that this topic is relevant to the country at a time when beauty pageants around the world are under pressure to show purpose beyond the stage.
A worthy lady SA
According to a statement issued by the organization, applicants are encouraged to join only when they are ready for training and responsibility, can work under pressure calmly, and are motivated by service rather than position.
Eligibility requirements will be shared on Miss South Africa’s official digital and social media platforms prior to the opening day. Entries for Miss South Africa 2026 open on 28 April and close on 17 May.
