Prada’s Style Walk to New York’s Hotel Chelsea

MILAN – Prada Mode is getting even more trendy for its 14th edition, which will be held at New York’s Hotel Chelsea in conjunction with the Tribeca Festival.

The Italian brand has enlisted real-life friends Nicolas Winding Refn, the Danish film director, and Hideo Kojima, the Japanese game producer, to take on a new role in the design and culture process, building on their past collaboration with Prada for the “Satellites” exhibition. The latter was organized at the Prada Aoyama center in Tokyo last summer and was about the relationship between love, language and creativity.

Called “Satellites II,” the Prada Mode New York leg is considered an extension of the first show. Running from June 3 to 7 – with the first few days accessible by invitation only – the event will take over the Chelsea Hotel with events, exhibitions and special installations of the area spread throughout its spaces, reorganized under the lens of sci-fi, Prada said.

“The climax will be an unforgettable universal journey of connection, inspiration and friendship shared by two artists,” said Prada.

Throughout the two-day private exhibition on June 3 and 4, several hotel rooms will be transformed into television studios, to show original and unique performances, while others will host selected guests for overnight stays.

During the next three public days, some art installations will be installed in rooms and other installations will be installed in other, unspecified locations throughout the city.

In line with previous editions, Prada Mode New York will include a rich cultural program that includes lectures, concerts, performances and exhibitions.

In addition to the premiere of Satellite, Winding Refn has created a short film – called “Touch of Crude” – for the collection of the best version of the year 2023. He is best known for his role in the film trilogy “Pusher” and winning the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Director for the film “Drive” in 2011.

Marking his second collaboration with Prada, Kojima is a well-known game designer who is considered the father of the “heist genre”. After creating his studio, Kojima Productions, in 2015 he released his superhero videogame for PlayStation 4 and PC called “Death Stranding” and starred Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, and Lindsay Wagner. In 2020, he received a BAFTA Fellowship, which is the organization’s highest honor given to an individual in recognition of an outstanding contribution to film, sports or television.

Last year, Prada Mode traveled to London to meet the art Frieze, collaborating with artists Elmgreen & Dragset, after arriving in Osaka and Inujima, Japan, and Abu Dhabi. The first event held in June 2025 was the result of collaboration with Kazuyo Sejima, co-founder of architecture and design SANAA, as reported, while the transfer of January 2025 in the city of the United Arab Emirates was held in the MiZa district and was developed in collaboration with the multi-tasking artist Theaster Gates.

In 2024 Prada Mode arrived in Los Angeles, presenting the third edition of The Double Club, a project by Carsten Höller, in collaboration with Luna Luna Luna Luna Studio.

In 2023 Prada Mode took place in partnership with the Tokyo city government and Teien Art Museum, one of Japan’s main institutions. It was edited and edited by Sejima.

Prada’s debut fashion show was held during Art Basel Miami Beach in 2018.

Previous editions have shown the works and performances of several artists, directors and photographers, such as Jamie Diamond, Kate Crawford, Trevor Paglen, Lee Sook-Kyung, Kim Jee-Woon, Yeon Sang-ho and Jeong Dahee, in addition to Gates, Zhangke, Hirst and Syms, among others.
