Coming out one year after the 1460 shoe was placed, Dr. Martens introduced the 1461: a unisex three-point Oxford style known for durability, comfort and versatility. Inspired by a date like 1460, the shoe’s sole references April 1, 1961. With its vented stitching and yellow stitching, this style has become a favorite among Dr. Martens over the years.

In honor of the milestone year, Dr. Martens Made in England has created a limited edition 1461 shoe, cut from Classic Calf leather from Leeds-based tannery CF Stead and detailed with Dr. Martens.

The “sepia grey” tone of the full-grain leather shoe is created with a mixture of natural oils and waxes, to achieve a deep color and a subtle pull that ages over time. The shoe features vintage gold eyelets, round wax laces and a unique branding celebrating England’s Cobb Lane factory. The Goodyear-welted, air-cushioned, bouncing-sole sole is designed in a signature style and features 1461’s signature stitch as well as the famous Dr. Martens’s yellow welt.

This style is the third limited edition of the 1461 shoe from the Northamptonshire factory this year. In addition to 1461, Dr. Martens continues to highlight the sepia gray Classic Calf leather by using it on the 1460 boot, also made in the Dr. Martens Made in England. The oxford retails for $280 while the boot retails for $300.

Ramona Riedzewski, head of the archives of Dr. Martens, said in a statement, “2026 marks 65 years since the first 1461 boot rolled off the production line in Wollaston, Northamptonshire. Built with craftsmanship, durability and Dr. Martens design, the 1461 boot has been passed down through the generations, earning its own cultural significance alongside the 1460 boot.
Milestones are yet to come for the English version. Last year, Dr. Martens celebrated the 65th anniversary of the 1460 boot.
