I just had the best beach vacation ever – and it was dog fun

It was a unique place near Skegness where you could park many modified vehicles, from fire engines to airstreams.

There’s nothing like a trip to the seaside, in Lincolnshire it has an amazing beach to explore.

Whether you want to visit Skegness and all its attractions, take a walk in a quiet nature reserve, or enjoy a family day out at one of the museums or wildlife parks, there is plenty to do.

But when it comes to accommodation, it can feel like an endless sea of hotel rooms, static caravans and campsites.

While these can be fun, sometimes it’s nice to live in a different place, where the place to stay can be an event in itself.

Less than 15 minutes from the bustling seaside town, we stopped at Layby Lincs for the weekend, where their accommodation is not typical.

The adults-only resort offers five unique modified cars, including a fire engine and an Airstream, all of which have their own bathrooms, outdoor kitchens and wood-fired hot tubs.

Each car is also dog-friendly, and two of them even have their own enclosed yard so your dogs can enjoy their time without worrying about them wandering off.

After spending a lot of time deciding which car we wanted to stay in, which was a tough choice, we rented a two-night Gee Gee, a converted 1992 racehorse box.

Although all the cars had amazing themes, Gee Gee understood us the best because of the park that was installed for our Rottweiler Bear, and it was a big square shape, so there was a lot of space for him to walk around inside.

What’s more, it even had its own balcony, which was a great place to enjoy your morning coffee while overlooking the pool.

After we arrived at the property we met one of the owners, Alex Leiserach, who was very nice and showed us around.

He and his wife Louise created this site and translate all the cars themselves, and you can tell how much love and thought has gone into the details.

The sun was just starting to set, so everything looked magical, and it felt like you were in the middle of nowhere. There was peace.

We used one of the trolleys to bring our supplies to Gee Gee’s, and were delighted to receive a welcome package, which included fresh juice, dog food and very tasty and non-perishable fudge.

But later we found out that there is a loyalty box where you can buy extra fudge and juice, and in a few weeks they hope to open a food truck too, for breakfast sandwiches, posh coffee and pizzas in the evening.

The inside of the horse box felt like a hotel room. We had a king size bed, sofa, lots of storage space, air conditioning and heating, and lots of themed decorations.

There were also robes, slippers and plenty of indoor and outdoor blankets, as well as bath and hot tub towels, and even dog towels for Bear.

The kitchen area was also bigger than I expected and had everything we could need, from cutlery and plates to cutting boards, cookware and even things like tea and spices.

In addition, we had our own bathroom which was big. It was bigger than our bathroom at home and had a rain shower and a large lighted vanity mirror, perfect for applying make-up.

Over the weekend, we relaxed on the property, enjoyed the wood-fired hot tub, played with Bear in the garden and enjoyed other areas of the area.

Layby Lincs is only 15 minutes from the beach, and we didn’t fancy going into Skegness itself, but we did explore a few of the nearby beaches and natural areas. We are spoiled for choice of pubs and cafes, and less than five minutes from the campsite is the National Trust site of Gunby Hall.

So whether you want to go further afield, stay close to your holiday home or don’t leave the area at all, there is plenty to do and enjoy.

We had the most amazing time and hope to visit again in the future, and I’m already eyeing Dennis the fire truck for our next trip.

Furthermore, when we left, we signed their ‘guest book’, which is actually an old car shell, just another thing that makes this place different and unique.
