Mission Breakdown Begins on the Lost Continent in Islands of Adventure

Work walls are up around the Lost Continent section in Islands of Adventure. Universal Orlando had previously stated that this work would help prepare the area for future development. Rumors in the past were for Zelda locations to replace this location, but new discussion among fans seems to be surrounding a possible Pokemon location.

Let’s check out the latest updates from within Islands of Adventure, as well as see what the permits for the upcoming work around the Lost Continent can tell us, in today’s news update. Check out the video version of this story below for more views.

Although the Lost Continent area has not had a ride or exhibit for several years, the land itself has remained open, with only dining, shopping, and meet and greets.

Poseidon’s Fury indoor attraction closed back in May 2023. The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad closed in 2018.

Permits have been filed in September 2025 for the demolition of other buildings within Islands of Adventure. The first of these permits specified “the demolition of 4.9 hectares of parkland that includes retail/exhibition/attraction buildings and related facilities, pedestrian facilities and an access road.”

The permit has been granted by the City of Orlando Permit and Planning Office

Speculation rushed to the Lost Continent, but park fans didn’t have to wonder for long, as a Universal Orlando representative gave an official comment to the Orlando Business Journal about the permits, saying:

“In the coming months, there will be construction activity on the Lost Continent as part of the site plan to ensure the site is ready for future development.”

It took almost half a year, but all the permits related to this upcoming work have just been completed and issued, and most of them are ready to return in February.

Now armed with their approved permits, it appears that the phased demolition plan is underway this week.

The walls of the work are close to the area near the Sindbad theater at this time, and the first work is taking place now, probably before the theater is demolished.

The walls of the work are lined with circular images, including one with the Lost Continent logo itself.

With the logos on the walls related to the Lost Continent itself, it does not offer any kind of transfer of the country at this time, which remains for the sake of the area.

To help prepare for the work in progress, changes to the approach take place behind the scenes. This way vehicles and Team Members will still be able to reach areas near construction that may be blocked by demolition and large equipment.

A few weeks ago saw the permanent closing of All Hallow’s Eve Boutique, along with the relocation of Henna Tattoos and Psychic, from the Lost Continent area to the Port of Entry, near the front of the park.

The old location of the Boutique store in the Lost Continent

To provide a new outlet for the Boutique’s unique merchandise offerings, a new Tribute Port of Entry store, called All Hallow’s Eve Lost Emporium, was opened.

The new “Lost Emporium” Market at the Port of Entry

The new open market at the Port of Entry has some decorations that were originally seen in the Lost Continent, as well as new built-in pieces, such as a Carnotaurus skull on a crate with a mysterious message, (which may be a reference to the recently closed DinoLand, USA at Disney’s Animal Kingdom).

Fans are wondering if since these market stalls can be moved to the Port of Entry, maybe the Mystic Fountain can also be moved?

To this day, the Mystic Fountain still exists and is easily accessible to travelers within the Lost Continent. However, there are rumors that it will also be put behind the work walls in the coming weeks.

Some offer Mystic Fountain until mid-May, so make sure you say goodbye before it’s too late.

At this time, Universal Orlando is not commenting on what will happen at the Lost Continent location. They also haven’t given an official timeline for when the remaining stores or restaurants will close, including Mythos.

It is expected that the rest of the land will be demolished in phases, with Sindbad’s theater being the first step.

It is estimated that the damage will extend to the market areas, including the work walls along the tourist routes, and then Poseidon’s Fury, before the Mythos, which may be the last to be closed and walled off from the visitors’ view.

At this time there is no date given for Mythos’ future closure. We also don’t know if the popular dining area will be redesigned to fit the future space, or removed entirely.

As mentioned earlier, the main rumor as to what property will replace the Lost Continent once it is destroyed, is Pokemon.

In January of this year The Pokemon Company and Universal Destinations & Experiences announced plans to bring attractions based on the popular franchise to theme parks around the world.
