It is a new type of charity shop that has just opened its doors
With Vivienne Westwood heels in the window and a vintage £1,000 Thierry Mugler dress on the front rack, as soon as you walk in you quickly realize that this is no ordinary charity shop that has opened its doors in Cheshire.
The Edition at Alderley Edge is a new store that aims to showcase “the new way of shopping by hand”, all in the name of a good cause. Billed as a “slow fashion” shop, it is still a charity shop and is raising vital money for the UK’s end-of-life charity Marie Curie.
But the new store is designed to attract people who want to “shop sustainably while enjoying the benefits of high-end shopping”. It replaced the old Marie Curie charity shop on London Road.
The store has brand new clothing, shoes and accessories from a variety of designers and high street brands. On opening day we had a shot at the runways and saw the likes of Victoria Beckham’s embellished mini dress for £400, Moncler trainers for £99.50 and a lilac Polo Ralph Lauren bag for £150, reports MEN.
The special cabinet also featured a Hermes scarf for £200, a pink Stella McCartney clutch for £250 and a coveted Mulberry Bayswater bag for £300 and Balenciaga trainers for £349.50 – half the price or less of the items originally sold. Everything in the store has been donated to the Alderley Edge store, or to Marie Curie stores across the country.
Managers here say that the profit generated from the sale will help the Marie Curie Nurses and Health Assistants to provide professional help and complete health care and support to people regardless of illness and wherever they live.
Graham Hall, Regional Retail Manager for Marie Curie, North of England, said: “After months of planning, we are delighted to open our new slow fashion store in Alderley Edge this week, following the success of our first showroom in Chapel Allerton, Leeds.
“Our team has prepared the high-quality donations we receive from fashion fans and collectors across the country, including many designer labels, for sale here at the Print shop. We look forward to welcoming our regular customers through the doors to see what they think of what is on offer and we hope to meet many new customers, some of whom may have never shopped in a store like this before.
“We are also looking for a few friendly volunteers who can help us provide a great shopping experience and would encourage anyone interested in fashion to get in touch or call for a chat.”
Marie Curie cares for people with any terminal illness including Alzheimer’s disease (and other forms of dementia), heart, liver, kidney and lung disease, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s and advanced cancer.
The charity provides health care and support services to people at home, in hospices and through their free National Helpline (0800 090 2309) which is available to anyone with a chronic illness and those close to them. The line provides practical and emotional support on everything from symptom management and daily care to financial information and bereavement support.
