Over the years, K beauty has had many breakthroughs: glass skin serums, PDRN treatments, and the rise of ‘spicule skincare’ are innovations from Korea that are now dominating beauty trends worldwide.
Korean lash extensions are tapping into a similar trend to channel the growing K-beauty market. Jaimineey Patel, Head of VIP for BBB London says: “It’s perfect for those looking for subtle, polished results without everyday mascara.” They look natural, can be customized, and are low maintenance or annoying.”
Not only does this amazing treatment speak to the current beauty zeitgeist for natural beauty without make-up, but the results are much better for scar health than the traditional method.
What is Korean lash lift?
A Korean braid lift bends your natural lashes from the root for a soft, natural tone. While traditional thread lifts use a single shield and a harsh thioglycolic acid formula that can leave the threads feeling overdone, the Korean method puts wound health first, using a two-step process that works across the entire length of the wound. The ‘body growth’ is also said to be gentle and unnoticeable, and your lashes are left in better shape after the treatment.
“It’s a permanent treatment that closes the bones from the root, which makes them appear longer and fuller,” explains Patel. “The products used to soften and replace the wires use a system based on cysteamine, which is another simple method that allows us to change the wires from the root to the tip, putting the health of the wounds first.”
How does it differ from traditional cable lifting?
The difference comes in both form and style. “In the traditional method of lifting scars, thioglycolic acid is used to break the hair bond; for the Korean version, a cysteamine-based formula is used instead,” explains Patel. “With traditional lifting, there is only one shield used and the formula can only work on the back that is created at that time.”
“During the first step of the Korean lash lift, a flat blade is used to lift the lashes from root to tip, creating a flat, smooth platform that allows the softening solution to work effectively at the roots,” adds Patel.
Although both treatments help to create a new shape and curl, the Korean two-stage lifting machine gives a different result than the considered method which ensures that the solution is evenly distributed. “The ropes are first relaxed using a flat shield, then a new shape is created using a second shield that achieves the desired curve and lift,” he adds.
Unlike a wide, heavily curved or ‘false lash’ result, the Korean lift creates a clean, natural and clear arc.
What to expect from a Korean lash lift
I enjoyed the whole experience; it was refreshing, non-irritating, and within an hour, I left Liberty’s BBB salon with long, curly, but still natural locks.
The best part was that there was no heartbreak or irritation. Patel admits: “The results look natural and can be customized, there are no hard lines or borders when they grow. This method ensures that the eyelashes are always healthy and strong, with results that last for 6-8 weeks,” he adds.
It’s true. My mountains didn’t look good, but they were instantly defined. They looked like my natural lashes were doubled, and each one was subtly curled, meaning I could skip mascara for weeks.
It wasn’t just an attraction to improve my beauty routine, though; the long-term effects were equally impressive. Last month – especially when I was very tired- I found myself skipping make-up completely and still looking bright eyed and polished. Even better, my lashes look as curled and defined as the day I left the salon.
